FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions about Folding Chairs
What are the characteristics of folding chairs and when are they particularly suitable?
Folding chairs are flexible seating solutions for gardens, balconies, patios, or camping. They can be stored compactly and are easy to transport.
- Flexibility: Quick to set up and fold away
- Space-saving: Ideal for small gardens or storage in sheds
- Portable: Lightweight for picnics, the beach, or camping
- Versatile: Suitable for dining areas, lounges, or events
Note: Folding chairs are practical for occasional use and situational seating arrangements.
Which materials are recommended for folding chairs?
The choice of material influences durability, weight, and maintenance effort:
- Metal: Aluminum or steel – sturdy, durable, weather-resistant
- Wood: Teak or acacia – natural look, robust, but more maintenance-intensive
- Plastic: High-quality plastic – lightweight, easy to clean, weather-resistant
- Textile covering: For seat and backrest – breathable and comfortable
Tip: Choose material according to application, preferred weight, and maintenance effort.
How do I choose the right size and seat height for folding chairs?
The right dimensions ensure comfort when sitting at a table or in a lounge:
- Seat height: 43–48 cm – suitable for standard garden tables
- Seat width: 40–50 cm for comfortable freedom of movement
- Depth: 38–45 cm for comfortable seating
- Stability: Ensure the chair stands securely on all surfaces
Tip: Before purchasing, consider your own sitting habits and table height.
How do I properly care for and clean folding chairs?
Regular care extends the lifespan and appearance of your folding chairs:
- Metal frame: Clean with mild water, lightly oil if necessary to prevent rust
- Wood: Oil or treat with wood preservative, especially when exposed to direct weather
- Plastic & textile: Wipe with mild soapy water, then dry
- Storage: Store dry and protected when not in use for extended periods
Practical Tip: Regularly check chairs, tighten screws, and avoid storage in the rain.
What is the best way to store and transport folding chairs?
Folding chairs are very flexible - correctly transported and stored, they remain beautiful and functional for longer:
- Transport: When folded, folding chairs are light and compact, ideal for cars, camping, or picnics.
- Portability: Many models have handles or are designed to be easily carried individually.
- Outdoor storage: Leaving them outside for a short time is unproblematic; for longer periods of non-use, use protection or a cover.
- Winter storage: For maximum lifespan, it's better to store them dry and protected, e.g., in a shed or cellar.
Tip: Clean folding chairs regularly and store them dry when not in use for extended periods - this keeps the material intact.
The GARDEN CHAIR Perspective
For over two decades, GARTEN-STUHL has stood for sophisticated garden and outdoor design at the highest level. Originating from a landscape architecture firm, our brand combines profound design knowledge with a keen sense for materials, proportions, and atmosphere. We understand every garden, every terrace, and every outdoor area as an individual living space – carefully composed, timelessly designed, and built for long-term quality.
From this approach, GARTEN-STUHL was established in 2010 as a curated brand for exclusive garden furniture and outdoor accessories. Our collections unite leading international manufacturers such as Unopiù, Atelier Vierkant, Tribù, Domani, Tuuci, Gandia Blasco, Vondom, Cane-Line, Barlow Tyrie, Fieldbar, and Kettal with our own product lines. Each piece is selected according to clear criteria: design quality, sustainable materials, artisanal craftsmanship, and the ability to permanently enhance outdoor spaces.
What distinguishes GARTEN-STUHL is the consistent search for that certain something. It is that special combination of comfort, aesthetics, and atmosphere that transforms an outdoor area into a personal retreat. We understand sustainability not as a trend, but as a responsibility – through durable products, high-quality materials, and timeless design that lasts for years.
Just as important as the product is personal contact for us. Our customers can reach us at any time – from the initial question about delivery and assembly to the holistic design of an outdoor space. With experience, accessibility, and a high standard of service, we support private residences as well as hotels, architects, and landscape gardeners throughout Europe.
GARTEN-STUHL stands for European outdoor living with character – for spaces that radiate tranquility, show personality, and elegantly enrich life outdoors.
Since 2010, we have extended our expertise to outdoor furniture, curating collections that bring the certain something to every setting.
