The Unopiù Emy Folding Chair Teak is a folding chair made of teak wood with brass fittings from the Emy collection. It was designed by Unopiù itself; the Italian brand has been working for outdoor spaces since 1978.

The Tripolina as a model

Emy goes back to the famous Tripolina, which English troops used on their campaigns in the 19th century. The reissue by the designers of the house follows the first version that came out for the World Exhibition in St. Louis in 1904.

Teak wood and brass fittings

The X-shaped scissor frame is made of light teak wood, visible gold-colored brass fittings are located at all joint and end points. Only grade A is processed, obtained from the middle part of the trunk, which ensures durability and shape stability. Rich in mineral salts and oils, this wood resists sun, rain and salt and is resistant to pests. Unopiù uses it in its natural state, without any treatment: color differences between individual elements are therefore completely normal, fine surface cracks are not considered a defect. Outdoors it takes on a silver-gray patina, without suffering the structural integrity; you maintain the warm, honey-colored tone with the manufacturer's care products. Dimensions, seat height and construction

The dimensions are W 63 × D 74 × H 104 cm, seat height 58 cm. These 58 cm indicate the height of the upper suspension bars, not the lowest point of the seat bowl: The fabric spans across the two longitudinal bars and sags, instead of forming a solid plate. Horizontal armrests as a separate component are missing; the upper rod bars take over their task, which is why Emy is considered an armchair.

Scope of delivery: without fabric

Important before ordering: The item comes to you without fabric. For outdoors, the current program provides a single fabric, made of 100% cotton in white, a separate item, finely hand-sewn. In addition, there is a version in leather, vegetable-tanned according to an old Tuscan technique; it is intended for indoor use only.

Folding, care and delivery

The simple and practical folding mechanism allows for space-saving storage and makes moving easy — as a folding chair in the garden or between other teak garden furniture on the terrace. According to the manufacturer, the frame should first stand in the fresh air for 24 to 48 hours: The fibers revitalize and release the natural oil that has accumulated over the storage time. Only after that do you wipe over the wood with a damp natural fiber cloth made of cotton or jute, and do so again at regular intervals. The chair is guided under the item number EMY.
