The Domani Moya is a round terracotta planter from the Moya collection, designed by Dutch designer Piet Boon. Each piece is handcrafted in Domani's workshop in Pécs, Hungary.
Moya is a rounded vessel with a clear band: the upper part features a vertical, fibrous texture reminiscent of thatch, while the lower part is smooth and defines the shape. The surfaces are finished by hand. Domani uses a kaolin-based terracotta that is fired so densely that, according to the manufacturer, it absorbs only 3 to 4% water – making the planter frost-resistant. How clay behaves outdoors is explained in our material overview.
According to the manufacturer, Moya is designed for both indoor and outdoor use – on terraces, balconies, and roof gardens, as well as in living spaces, hotels, and commercial areas. The wide opening leaves plenty of room for planting; the largest model measures Ø 80 × H 71 cm.
Moya is available in three sizes and six colors – white (natural white), sand (natural sand), grey (natural grey), green (natural swamp), black (natural black), and red (natural red). All models have a drainage hole. Our page on Domani showcases more vessels from the brand, while the rest of the manufacturer's range is shown in our selection of planters.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Domani Moya frost-resistant?
Yes. According to the manufacturer, Domani's densely fired terracotta absorbs only 3 to 4% water; the Domani Moya is therefore frost-resistant and can remain outdoors year-round. It is important that water does not collect in the vessel during winter; in severe frost, Domani recommends wrapping the vessel and plant in a fleece blanket.
Can the Domani Moya also be placed indoors?
Yes, the Domani Moya is also suitable for indoor use. Terracotta is porous and not waterproof; Domani therefore recommends lining the inside of the vessel with pond liner or a watertight insert and placing the plant in a hydroponic setup with a water level indicator.
Who designed the Domani Moya?
The Domani Moya was designed by Dutch designer Piet Boon. Its defining feature is the band between the fibrous, thatch-like texture at the top and the smooth base below.
