Model: CY2 (800x800x800 mm), CY1 (1000x1000x800 mm)
The YORK Corten steel planter has a warm and powerful appearance. This is mainly due to the orange-brown color of the material, which is based on a natural rust layer. Another name for Corten steel is weathering steel: weather conditions have a positive influence on this planter.
Corten steel is a metal alloy consisting of iron with added copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel, and chromium. When the material is exposed to the outside air, it becomes covered with a protective rust layer over time. This natural rust layer provides protection against further corrosion. This gives the planter a long lifespan.

Important notes:
- The products should be unpacked immediately upon receipt so that no moisture collects between the packaging and the product. This can lead to uneven rust spots.
- Ensure good drainage
- Do not use an overflow pipe; no excess water should remain in the Corten steel planter. The combination of oxygen and soil could then cause the material to rust through.
- Do not use hydro-pellets: they retain moisture.
- The products come without a rust layer. The rusting process on Corten steel takes about 4-5 months, depending on weather conditions. With our rust accelerator, you can make the planters rust faster.
- During the rusting process, rust water may run off the product.
- Rust can be removed by applying Owatrol. This is a penetrating rust preventative that forms a protective layer against rust. Owatrol protects the planter and prevents the Corten steel from staining.
- We advise against using Corten steel within a 2 km radius of the coast.
Planting tips
- Cover the bottom with a layer of Ø35 mm pebbles (approx. 10 cm).
- Place a permeable anti-root fabric over the pebbles.
- Cover the anti-root fabric with soil suitable for your desired type of planting.
- Do not use an overflow pipe; no excess water should remain in the Corten steel planter. The combination of oxygen and soil could then cause the material to rust through.
