Corten steel is a metal alloy consisting of iron with added copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel, and chromium. When the material is exposed to the outside air, a protective layer of rust forms over time. This natural rust layer provides protection against further corrosion, giving the planter a long lifespan.
Material: Corten steel Diameter: 600-1200 mm Height: 600-1000 mm Top edge: 70x30 mm Material thickness: 2 mm Support feet: 15 mm Drainage holes: Ø 27 mm
Important notes:
- Products should be unpacked immediately upon receipt to prevent moisture from accumulating between the packaging and the product, which can lead to uneven rust spots.
- Ensure good drainage.
- Includes support feet and drainage holes. This ensures that the planter is slightly elevated above the ground (15 mm) and has optimal drainage.
- Do not use an overflow pipe; no excess water should remain in the Corten steel planter. The combination of oxygen and soil could cause the material to rust through.
- Do not use hydro pellets: they retain moisture.
- The products arrive without a rust layer. The rusting process on Corten steel takes about 4-5 months, depending on weather conditions. You can accelerate the rusting process of the planters with our rust accelerator.
- During the rusting process, rust water may run off the product.
- Rust can be removed by applying Owatrol. This is a penetrating rust inhibitor that forms a protective layer against rust. Owatrol protects the planter and prevents the Corten steel from staining.
- We advise against using Corten steel within 2 km of the coast.
Planting tips
- Cover the bottom with a layer of Ø35 mm pebbles (approx. 10 cm).
- Place a permeable anti-root fabric over the pebbles.
- Cover the anti-root fabric with soil suitable for your desired type of planting.
- Do not use an overflow pipe; no excess water should remain in the Corten steel planter. The combination of oxygen and soil could cause the material to rust through.
