FAQ – The 5 most frequently asked questions about canopies

What types of canopies are available and what materials are used?

Our canopies offer flexible solutions for terraces, gardens, and entrance areas:

  • Pergolas: freestanding or attached to the house wall, optionally without a canopy, with polycarbonate panels, awning fabric, or waterproof tarpaulin (29% polyester, 71% PVC) – permanently mounted or as a spring roller blind
  • Gazebos: freestanding, without a canopy or with a waterproof tarpaulin
  • Carports: stable wooden constructions
  • Canopies: compact, functional protection for entrances made of metal, polycarbonate, and glass

Tip: Choose a canopy and material that match the intended use, design, and location.

What materials are canopies made of and what are their advantages?

The choice of material influences stability, protective effect, and durability:

  • Wood (e.g., larch, Douglas fir, pine): natural look, robust, oil or impregnate as needed
  • Aluminum / Steel: weather-resistant, stable, and easy to maintain
  • Polycarbonate panels: translucent, weather-resistant, and impact-resistant
  • Fabric roofs / Tarpaulins: awning fabric or waterproof tarpaulins, UV and water-resistant

Tip: Especially with pergolas, roofs can be flexibly retrofitted or replaced.

How big should a canopy be?

The right size depends on the area, use, and location:

  • Pergolas: adjust length and width to the seating or lounge area, possibly plan space for plants
  • Gazebos: choose a footprint that fits table, seating, or lounge furniture
  • Carports: minimum width approx. 3 m, depth approx. 5 m per vehicle (depending on parking space)
  • Canopies: dimensioned to reliably protect doors and windows from the weather

Tip: Plan for sufficient movement and safety distances.

Which canopy is suitable for which use?

Different canopy solutions are suitable for different areas of use:

  • Pergolas: ideal for patios, garden lounges, or as a climbing aid for plants
  • Gazebos: ideal for permanent seating or lounge areas in the garden, on larger lawn or gravel areas; particularly stable due to permanent ground anchoring and suitable for a long-term location
  • Carports: reliable protection for vehicles from rain, snow, and UV radiation
  • Canopies: practical weather protection for entrance areas, windows, or front doors

Tip: Location, use, and desired appearance should be considered when making your selection.

Can I individually extend or adapt the canopies?

Many of our canopies can be flexibly extended and adapted to your individual needs:

  • Pergolas: roofs and tarpaulins can be added or replaced later. Awning fabric or waterproof tarpaulins are possible – permanently mounted or as a spring roller blind. Bamboo mats can also be added or replaced. Polycarbonate panels cannot be retrofitted. Additionally, side extensions are available.
  • Gazebos: The canopy or tarpaulin is interchangeable and can be renewed or visually adjusted as needed – ideal for permanent weather-resistant use.

Tip: Before purchasing, check which extensions are compatible with the respective model.
